Rep. Ben Cline Introduces the Subpoena Compliance Accountability Act

Today, Congressman Ben Cline (R-VA) introduced the Subpoena Compliance Accountability Act, which would amend House Rules to require that appropriations bills considered by the House prohibit funds for the salary of any federal officer or employee who is convicted of contempt in violation of 2 U.S. Code § 192  - Refusal of a witness to testify or produce papers. This year alone, House Republicans have threatened to hold multiple agency leaders of the Biden Administration in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with their subpoenas or to produce documents related to congressional investigations.

Rep. Ben Cline said, "For too long, federal officials within the Biden Administration have stonewalled congressional investigations. Enough is enough. Defunding any federal official held in contempt will hold them accountable, strengthen congressional subpoena power, and help restore trust in our institutions."
