Rep. Cline Presents Rusty Nichols the Congressional Gold Medal

October 23, 2020

Civilian efforts at home during WWII were critical to helping win the War. Yesterday I had the honor of presenting the Congressional Gold Medal to Rusty Nichols of Madison Heights who joined the Civil Air Patrol at just 14 years old in 1944. Founded just days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Civil Air Patrol played a critical role in defending the homeland by participating in coastal patrol operations, convoy escorts, emergency transportation of military personnel, search and rescue missions, and nationwide emergency communications.
